Delhi witnessed yet another apocalyptic atmospheric condition within just 7 months of duration. The last happened during and post Diwali celebrations. We cannot really avoid being stuck in the hazardous situation but we can definitely take some precautionary steps to minimize the damage.
1. Avoid Outdoors:
Straight from morning walks to outdoor exercises and leisure activities, try and avoid all of it during such conditions. The outdoor air during smog conditions is more hazardous for your respiratory system than ever. If you really want to go out, make sure you drink enough water and fluids to get out the impurities out of your system and wear a mask.
2. Customised Diet:
During such drastic condition, include foods rich in Vitamin C, Omega 3 fatty acids, and Magnesium as they help fight allergies and infections. Fruits and vegetables like oranges, pineapple, watermelon, berries, guava, kiwis, cabbage, bell peppers, spinach, okra, and papaya etc. are rich in Vit C and help you stay immune to seasonal allergies.
3. Herbal Tea to the Rescue:
Try to include herbal ginger, lemon and tulsi tea in adequate quantity as they are good for absorbing impurities. Ginger, lemon and tulsi along with honey help you clean the toxic pollutants you inhale with air, out from your system. You can also sip on some Chamomile tea before going to bed to calm down your body muscles as, during extreme polluted air conditions, the pollutants like cadmium and lead make your body restless.
4. Mask it Properly:
The best air pollution masks are N99 VOG mask and N95 air masks but if they are slightly out of the budget then go for the normal ones and change them every week. These face masks filter out the airborne pollutants and dust particles and let you breathe filtered air.
5. Keep Your Surroundings Clean:
“Cleanliness is next to Godliness”, true that! Everyday cleaning and dusting is a must to avoid accumulation of dust particles. According to many experts, often your home harbours more bacteria and dust particles than a public trash can. Home Essentials and appliances like microwave, bed linens and computer systems should be cleaned every week.
